The Chicago Cubs starter Jon Lester fell short of setting a new career high in wins with his loss in Cincinnati. The Cubs fell to the home standing Cincinnati Reds 7-4. Lester worked five innings, surrendering six hits, five earned runs, walked three and fanned six before departing the contest. Lester was attempting to win his 20th game of the season.
Lester finishes the campaign with a 19-5 record, and an ERA of 2.44. The 19 wins ties a career best which he did with the Boston Red Sox in 2010. Lester worked over 200 innings for the fifth consecutive season. He is expected to be a contender for the Cy Young Award along with teammate Kyle Hendricks. Next up is the postseason, and has pitched well enough to get the call in game one. 2016 was the type of season the Cubs expected when they signed the southpaw as a free agent.
