Jon Lester Dominates Cardinals

Jon Lester dominated the St. Louis Cardinals in a 7-0 Cubs win at Busch stadium. It was Lester's 17th victory of the season as he hurled eight shutout innings, giving up only three hits, with one walk and fanned eight Cardinal hitters.  The three hits were all singles. The win total is the second highest in Lester's career, he won nineteen in 2010 for the Boston Red Sox.

Lester lowered his earned run average to 2.40, he squarely in the middle of the Cy Young race with teammates Kyle Hendricks, Jake Arrieta, and Max Scherzer of the Washington Nationals. The win capped off a 5-4 Cubs road trip, and dropping the Cubs magic number to one.  The Cubs can clinch the Central division with a win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday, or a Cardinals loss at San Francisco.
