The Detroit Tigers broke the home winning streak of hard throwing righthander Jose Fernandez at seventeen straight. Fernandez appeared to be rolling when he struck out the side in the first inning, but he ran into problems in the second when catcher Jarrod Saltalamachia hit a two-run home run, and later added a two run double. It was last April the catcher was released by the Marlins.

It was the first home loss for Fernandez in twenty-seven starts.  Fernandez owns the Major League home winning streak at seventeen games. He allowed five runs in 5.2 innings of work. He did fan thirteen hitters in his 5.2 innings., but was hurt by a couple of mistakes.

Victor Martinez hit a pinch hit home run in the 8th inning becoming the first player to hit pinch hit home runs in his first two games since 1914. Anibal Sanchez turned a solid start going five innings, surrendering four hits, two earned runs, and no walks with three strikeouts. The Tigers swept the two game series, and will head home to play the Yankees on Friday. The Marlins travel to the Nationals, and will try to get into the win column.
