Major League Baseball's knee jerk reaction to the Chase Utley's slide in the playoffs last year is already proving to be ludcrious and cost the Toronto Blue Jays a game. The "Utley rule" has to be modified, or it will become a season of ridiculous calls. It is obvious those making the rule have never played baseball, any aggressive slide your momentum will carry the runner past the bag. Player safety should be taken into consideration, but the new rule lacks common sense.
Umpiring crew chief told the Tampa Bay Times that the replay officials in New York told him only Bautista had "hindered and impeded Forsythe. It was a terrible way to end a game. The rule needs examined before their is a rash of games decided on the controversial new rule.
