The Chicago Cubs opened the 2016 season by pounding the Angels 9-0 on the road in Anaheim. Jake Arrieta resumed this season where he left off last season by blanking the Halos over seven innings on only two hits. He walked one hitter and fanned six, and was near untouchable for his seven innings work.He was as dominate as he performed in the second half of the 2015 season. The 2015 Cy Young award was at the top of his game again in the season debut to say the least.
Miguel Montero provided the Cubs with their first of what will potentially be a record breaking team before the season is over. His two-run blast in the sixth inning broke open a close game. The Cubs banged out 11 hits against the Angels including four extra base hits. The two teams return to action tonight with Jon Lester pitching for the Cubs.
Arrieta's next start will come against the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
