Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting that Jeremy Guthrie has agreed to a minor league deal with the San Diego Padres. Guthrie, will be 37 this week, and is coming off a poor season with the Kansas City Royals. Earlier this week he invoked his opt-clause, and was released by the Texas Rangers.
Guthrie was 8-8 with an ERA of 5.95 with the Royals in 2015. He surrendered 9.5 hits, 2.7 walks, and fanned 5.1 hitters per nine innings of work. Over the course of his career he is 91-108 with an ERA of 4.37, allowing 9.5 hits. 2..6 walks, and 5.3 strike outs per nine innings of work. He put back-to-back solid seasons for the Royals in 2013-2014. He likely to provide depth to a rotation that could be in a state of flux.
