MLB.com's Adam Berry has reported that right-hand pitcher Juan Nicasio has locked down a position in the Pittsburgh Pirates rotation. The final spot in the Pirates rotation had come down to a battle between Nicasion and Ryan Vogelsong. Nicasio was out standing in Spring Training by fanning 24 hitters in only 15 innings, while surrendering only 5 walks.
Nicasio signed with the Pirates because of pitching coach Ray Searage in an effort to revitalize his career. He will get the opportunity to prove himself as part of the rotation. Nicasio was 1-3 with an ERA of 3.86. He allowed 9.1 hits, 4.9 walks, and had 10 strike outs per nine innings of work. He worked in 53 games for the Dodgers, all but one game came in a relief role.
