MLB.com's Jeffrey Flanagan is reporting that the Kansas City Royals have released pitcher Ross Ohlendorf rather than add him to the 40-man roster. Ohlendorf had opted out of his minor league contract which gave the Royals 48 hours to add him to the 40-man roster, or be released. Ohlendorf struggled during Spring Training in eight innings of work, he allowed six runs with 3 walks, and 9 strikeouts.
Ohlendorf will try to catch on with another club, and should have some interest after performing well for the Rangers in 2015. He worked 19.1 innings, struck out 8.8, and walked 3.3 per nine innings. He is an eight year veteran with stops with the Pirates, Padres, Yankees, and Nationals.
